Choosing Wisely

The Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine is proud to be part of the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign.

The campaign covers tests and procedures that specialty society partners say are overused and inappropriate, and that physicians and patients should discuss. National and provincial medical specialty societies, regional health collaboratives and patient and community partners have joined the conversations about appropriate care and compiled lists of recommendations -  all starting with the words “Don’t” or “Avoid” – followed by a description of what you should avoid doing and why. 

CSTM Choosing Wisely Canada List
The CSTM has compiled a Choosing Wisely Canada list of 10 recommendations. As well, short, entertaining andinformative animated videos are included with many of the recommendations.

Using Blood Wisely Campaign
In September 2020, Choosing Wisely Canada, in collaboration with Canadian Blood Services, launched Using Blood Wisely, a national campaign to decrease inappropriate red blood cell transfusion practices in Canada.

Choosing Wisely Perinatal Recommendations
Choosing Wisely Canada, in collaboration with the CSTM Canadian Obstetrics and Pediatric Transfusion Network (COPTN), has released the CSTM’s four new Perinatal recommendations.
