CSTM 2023 - A Year In Review

It’s now December and, for those of us on the Communications Committee, it feels like it was both yesterday and at least several years ago that we were starting 2023.

As the year began, the end of 2022 carried into early 2023 as we continued to share the news of the Revised Version 5 of the CSTM Standards.

Shortly after the start of the year, we began the Meet the Board blog series authored by the Board’s own Crystal Brunk. Be sure to read back over the earlier posts to learn more about the members, and their roles.

Beyond the blog, the new year’s focus was all on the upcoming annual general meeting, conference and Board nominations.

As we said a huge thank you and farewell to Bernadette Muise (Eastern Director 2019 -2023) and Tanya Petraszko (Western Director 2019-2023) as their Board terms ended, we welcomed Melissa Dawe (Eastern Director) and Matt Yan (Western Director) to their new roles.

Nearly 500 of you attended the CSTM conference in Montreal with us and took in the many well-received workshops, plenary sessions and presentations, along with a few social activities.. Backed by the setting of the gorgeous city and a great venue, and with the continued, strong support of our sponsors, it was indeed a highlight of the year.

The Education Committee brought its first of two virtual education sessions in July, with sharing experiences about rural trauma cases, from both coasts. Later in the year, the second session aptly titled Blood - from Splatter to a Hemorrhage just after Hallowe’en, followed, this time in both English and French..

As the year starts to come to a close, CSTM is already turning sights to 2024, the annual conference in Saskatoon, more virtual education days, continued partnerships and continued connection with you across the transfusion community. We look forward to seeing you!

CSTM Communication Committee, on behalf of the CSTM Board of Directors
