Maritime Kitchen Party
Wow, where has the time gone! We can’t believe that in two weeks we will be in the middle of another great conference! We’re so excited! A great program is available, lots of networking opportunities, time to meet and greet old friends and make new, and of course the fun, food, and fellowship! (Our specialty!)
As co-chairs of the social committee, we wanted to remind you that the opportunity of getting your kitchen party tickets is almost over. If you have already registered and would like tickets (or would like to purchase additional tickets), please email [email protected] prior to May 18 as tickets will not be available at the conference.
Not sure what a kitchen party is? Down here in the Maritimes, gatherings of family and friends includes food, fellowship, and of course, music and dancing. People gather in the kitchen (or another area of the house) and pull out their instruments and just have a great time! It is a very casual affair, so be sure to wear comfortable clothes – jeans are permitted.
Tartan or plaid is preferred, but optional!
Our kitchen party will start with time to view the National Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, where so many of Canada’s immigrants arrived. You will be given your very own passport and be screened by an immigration officer to see if you are accepted into Canada, or will be deported. Enjoy viewing the exhibits while enjoying cocktails.
Dinner will be in Heritage Hall, and will consist of a “farmer’s market buffet” that includes many maritime specialties; lobster, chicken, chowder, lamb, and of course, yummy desserts…..blueberry grunt and strawberry shortcake just to name a few.
After enjoying so much to eat, it’s time to work those calories off and get the party started! Bagpipes, small pipes, penny whistles, highland dancing, step dancing, digeridoo, bodhran, and gaelic singing. Always wanted to learn the highland fling? Well here is your chance…….. dance lessons provided! Not sure about the fling, we will get your toes a tapping and bodies moving to good ol Cape Breton Square Sets.
