And now - here's Eric!!

Dear Colleagues,

My name is Eric Ching, I would like to use this medium to dialogue, to learn and to share my experience in transfusion medicine, but mostly, my passion in blood group serology.

A brief background of myself:

I was born and raised in Hong Kong and had my training at the University of Hawaii and at the St. Francis Hospital in Honolulu, a 4+1 program that I didn’t mind the long stay!  My 40 years in the field includes CBS (the Canadian Red Cross), the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary and in the industry. I am holding a position as a global education specialist with DBL/Immucor.

After years of teaching at a university hospital and author of a few correspondence courses with SAIT and CSMLS, I’ve have a collection of some thought provoking cases studies and assessment questions. With the support of the CSTM’s  BoD, I’d like to share them with you here.

My goal is to arouse interests amongst TM technologists, research scientists, hematopathologists and industry experts to learn from one another, because we share the same goal - safe and timely transfusion for better patient care.  I welcome your questions, comments and most importantly, your participation by adding more information (knowledge is for better transfusion service!) and correcting my mistakes.

My special thanks go to Bev Padget, our webmaster, who will guide me through the electronic maze as my computer skill is very basic.

Since I travel often, I may not blog regularly but I’ll try to contribute at least once or twice a month.

My entries will have the following headings:
  • Back to basics
  • Tech Tips
  • Mix and Match
  • Did you know:
  • Do you want to...
  • Case Studiea
  • Down the memory lane
  • Test your knowledge
I welcome your suggestions and perhaps becoming another blogger yourself to keep Bev busy! I sincerely hope that we are going to enrich our careers and commit ourselves to explore new frontiers in the specialty that we enjoy.

Best Regards,

Eric
